Gaile Gray said that...
Said in the 8december chat log that...
Portugal/Brazil don't have portuguese district because there are more spanish around the globe speaking spanish. Ok, gaile is correct.
BUT....
1. Chinese (Mandarin) / 1,075,000,000
2. English / 514,000,000
3. Hindustani1 / 496,000,000
4. Spanish / 425,000,000
5. Russian / 275,000,000
6. Arabic / 256,000,000
7. Bengali / 215,000,000
8. Portuguese / 194,000,000
9. Malay-Indonesian / 176,000,000
10. French / 129,000,000
Portugal has more people speaking portuguese than french and german and ITALY! that dont even apear in top 10.
I really dont get it.. we have so many portuguese playing the game, but still we dont get a portuguese district.
Italy is always empty.. How the heck they have a district and we don't? Explain me Gaile. I will shut up if you give me the reason.
It's sad. And by the way... Spanish district would be alot fuller in america.
I hope to see a awnser. A straight one.

Try and find the sales information seperated by region, and that might give you the answer.

It's not about world population... it's about sales. If there were enough sales from brazil/portugal to warrant a district for them, they'd open one. But obviously there hasn't been, so they won't get a seperate district.

As far as I know, there are only districts for languages that are supported by the client. Portugese isn't one of them.

Regretfully, while Brazil has a large Portuguese-speaking population, only a small percentage of them have either internet access or discretionary income to spend on a game.

There may be more people who speak portuguese in the real world, but i doubt more portuguese speakers play guild wars than the french or even the germans do. Thats why they warrent there own districts. If more portuguese speaking people played the game, i'm pretty sure anet would open up a district for them. (Then again for all i know the portuguese speaking people outnumber the french or german speakers, my post is mostly speculation really..)

Half true. It's not this arcaic here on the internet access, but regarding game acquisition, we need to import the box, that would be the value of the game x 1.6 (import taxes), let's say, 77 dollars. The currency differences are not helpfull either. This is the hard part. I only ordered my key on the site because there were no taxes but the credit card ones. And there are a lot of brazilian players nowadays. I really wish there was an official representant here, producing the game at our currency. Ok, enough of rating, just want to clarify this a little better.

Guess someone who only studies national history and national geography knows what he is saying.
I guess that you know that São Paulo (wich is a state, you also know that) is bigger then any country from western Europe and all of them speak portuguese. And as you know, like in every country, some people dont have acess to internet or just simply dont care about online games, like as you know, our favorite hobby here in Brazil (wich as you know its spelled Brasil in here) is also our favorite sport, soccer, and not Guild Wars.
And that our capital city is Brasilia, and not Rio de Janeiro, but of course, you know that.
For that, you know that what you said is a complete nonsense.
You know what happened to Orkut, or what happened to Fotolog, right? ^^
I think its a good idea to create a portuguese version for GW, this might influence the ascending number of players in here to buy GW, since they could understand perfectly

Like someone said in this post earlier. One reason a country gets it's own district is because the number of players in that country. If the player base warrants it then yes A-Net and NC-Soft should look into giving Portugual it's own districts. But until that happens you will be stuck with the European districts for now. It's not about how many people speak a language but the number of actual players within a region.
Although China is gonna get their own district due to politics and not player base, but that is the only way that A-Net and NC-Soft can apease China and get a foothold there.

Add a district for every language, Welsh District 1 would have more people than italian districts do surely.

Brazil has now an official reseller, Level Up Games. At least they say that they have made a deal with NCSoft.
I've never seen an official announcement on Guild Wars website about this.
When I'm playing Team Arenas I always see some brazilians/portuguese gathering for a group.
My current dream is to see a Portuguese (Brazil) and a Portuguese language option, not necessarily with districts, but that would be lovely too And yes, I am brazilian and we are currently experiencing a Guild Wars "expansion" as it has an official reseller now. I've played since E3 for Everyone/WPE/Early Access from Prophecies, and I had to import the game, so it costed me twice the retail price.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Brazil on business and pleasure.
A couple of points:
Brazillian Portuguese is different from European Portuguese. The Brazillian form is based on an older dialect.
I worked for tech companies, and quite a few people were WoW addicts. None had heard of Guild Wars until I showed it to them.
Brazil is one of the fastest-growing economies in the Western hemisphere, and they do have a modern tech industry.
ANet might want to consider this emerging market.

If ANet gives one country/language their own district, everyone will want their own one. Then everyone will be split into countless districts and making a group will be hopeless. I remember before the separation when everyone was in the same district and everything was fine...
